Farooq Sattar's arrest: SHC puts off hearing till 25th
KARACHI: A division bench of Sindh High Court, comprising Justice Dr Ghous Muhammed and Justice Musheer Alam, on Tuesday adjourned hearing of a constitutional petition challenging arrest of Dr Farooq Sattar till January 25.
The bench while adjourning the matter, expressed satisfaction over the production of the alleged detinue, a former senior Sindh minister, Mayor of Karachi and a central leader of Mutahedda Qaumi Movement (MQM).
Raja Qureshi, Advocate General Sindh, assisted by S Tariq Ali, Standing Counsel and Munir A Malik, appearing for the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), said a petition challenging the newly-enacted NAB Ordinance has been pending before the Supreme Court of Pakistan and that this petition be adjourned till a decision by the apex court.
K M Nadeem, counsel for the petitioner Abdul Sattar Parwani, father of Dr Farooq Sattar, requested the court for a fixed date.
The bench in its order adjourned the matter till January 25 for further proceedings. The court also ordered that the detinue be allowed a meeting with his lawyers for one hour followed by another one hour meeting with the family and relatives in the waiting room of the SHC registrar.
A large number of relatives and MQM leaders were present and witnessed the proceedings. These include Senator Aftab Shaikh, Senator Mustafa Kamal, Senator Nasreen Jalil, MNA Arif Khan Adovcate, former Sindh minister Waseem Akhtar and MPAs Khalid Bin Walid, Haroon Siddiqui, Zahid Qureshi and Abdul Qadir Lakhani.ÑAPP
