ISLAMABAD: The stone lying ceremony of OIC Standing Committee on Science and Technological Cooperation (COMSTECH) Secretariat building will be held here today (January 5) at 4.30 pm.

Prof Atta-ur-Rahman, Coordinator General Comstech will lay the foundation stone of the secretariat building here at Constitutional Avenue opposite the Supreme Court Building.

According to Comstech sources, Ambassadors from OIC member states, a large number of eminent scientists and academicians would attend the ceremony.

Comstech is a Ministerial Standing Committee on Scientific and Technological Cooperation that helps coordinate research activities among the fifty-six member states of the Organisation of Islamic Conference (OIC) and also helps create an environment conducive to the development of science in the region of the OIC members states.

The three-day Ninth General Assembly meeting of Comstech held here in November 1999 decided to give Comstech its own secretariat building to further expand its activities and help create more facilities for the scientific community of the OIC region.

It may be recalled that the Comstech secretariat runs a variety of programmes including Comstech Visiting Scientists Programme, Comstech Spare Parts Programme, free Scientific Literature Search Service Programme, Comstech Information Technology Cantres Programme in OIC Member States, Profiles of the Islamic World, Comstech-Isesco Database of Active Scienntists programme, Research Support for Young Scientists programme, Comstech assistance for conferences, workshops and seminars, and a number of collaborative programmes with other international organisations.ÑAPP
