KU holidays
KARACHI: The Karachi University and its affiliated colleges will remain closed from January 8 to 10 on account of Eid-ul-Fitr. This was notified by the Registrar of the University on Monday. It said the Karachi University and its affiliated institutions will also remained closed on January 5 on account of Shab-e-Qadr and January 7 on account of Juma'at-ul-Wida. The scheduled examinations of the University, if any, will remain unchanged, the notification added. APP
4 Rly employees absolved of charge
KARACHI: Four of the Railway employees who were held by the army officials on January 1, 2000 on charge of black marketing of tickets were let off on January 2 after questioning. Those who were allowed to go after questioning were Senior Reservation Supervisor Mohammad Hussain STEs Group Inspector. Syed Abdul Razaq Shah, STE Mohammad Aslam Shaikh and Ticket Collector Mehar Ali Bhatti. The four railway employees explained to the army officials their nature of duty and said they had nothing to do with the racket of ticket blackmarketeers. All of them have joined their respective duties from January 2. APP

PATTOKI: DSP Pattoki circle has said that policemen in civil clothes have been deputed at the various crowded bazars such as bangles market, Round Market and main bazar. The step has been taken to ensure security during Eid shopping and prevent any untoward and anti-social activities such as eve-teasing, he said.ÑAPP
DCET exams commence
KARACHI: The annual examinations of first year BE/B.Tech chemistry, electronics, metallurgical, industrial engineering and architecture batch 1996-97 and remaining batch of Dawood College of Engineering and Technology (DCET) Karachi here started. Announcing this on Monday, the DCET Principal said that the examinations are being conducted in two phases. He said that the first phase has already started while the second phase is scheduled to commence from January 17. APP
LESCO provides power to 562 units
LAHORE: Lesco has provided electricity to 562 industrial units during the first five months of the current financial year. This was stated by a LESCO spokesman here on Monday. He said that during the period July-November 99, Lesco provided 63 new industrial power connections in the area falling under 1st Lahore Electricity circle 105 to the area of 2nd Lahore electricity circle, 192 in 3rd Lahore electricity circle 70 in 4th Lahore electricity circle and 94, in 5th Lahore electricity circle area. Trader deprived of Rs 0.2m
LAHORE: Two armed dacoits looted Rs 200,000 from a trader at gun point at Ferozwala, Shahdara here on Monday morning. According to details, Mohammad Arshad, resident of Bungalow Taj Colony was being on his van (LOT 2358) to buy garments Near Wandola bridge, two dacoits on a motorcycle (*LXB-2618) signalled him to stop, deprived him of the cash, and managed to escape. Police have registered the case and started investigation. APP
