Cane growers protest against police harassment

Lahore: A large number of sugarcane growers of Bahawalpur area on Monday protested against the high-handiness of police, who allegedly stopped their tractor-trolleys on Chishtian-Hasilpur and Yazman roads. They accused the police officials with charging 'Eidi' from them.

Pakistan Sugar Mills Association in press release stated that the farmers had also lodged a complaint against the police with the military authorities and added that the police took them to police station along with the tractor-trolleys and forced them to sit in the open air in cold weather for two days.

The farmers said that if the police continued to harass them, they would burn their crops on the trolleys. They appealed to the military high-ups to take note of this high-handiness and save them from starvation.
