KMC averts damage

to Dhabeji water pumping station

KARACHI: The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) through a quick action on Sunday saved Dhabeji water pumping station from being razed by fire and averted a major water crisis in city.

Dhabeji forest on Sunday caught fire which encircled the water pumping station there, said a KMC news release.

Following receipt of information, fire vechicles of KMC reached the spot shortly and saved the pumping station worth billions of rupees which otherwise was likely to have been destroyed.

At least 34 gallons of diesel were available at the station at that time.

The mishap would have caused a big cut in water supply to Karachi. Out of 428 million gallons daily (MGD), 325 MGD are supplied to the city from Dhabeji Pumping station.ÑAPP
