Civil defence improvement plans reviewed

ISLAMABAD: Civil defence directors conference held here on Saturday prepared a comprehensive strategy to remove the impediments faced by the civil defence organisation throughout the country.

The conference, with Civil Defence Director General Mohammad Siddique in the chair, reviewed the steps taken in all the four provinces, Azad Kashmir and Northern Areas and took imperative decisions to make the organisation more effective.

During the conference, it was stressed that the Civil Defence training courses should be modernised and made in line with the current situation and people be trained to combat terrorism and other natural calamities.

The conference also reviewed the civil defence arrangements and requirements in Northern Areas and it was agreed that a comprehensive scheme would be prepared in this respect.

On this occasion, the representatives from NAs and the NWFP, while referring to their financial problems, sought federal government's financial assistance so that these areas could also be equipped with effective civil defence.

The conference was attended by representatives from all the four provinces, Azad Kashmir and Northern Areas. APP
