'AMT aims at introducing work culture in education dept'
RECORDER REPORT
LAHORE: The Army Monitoring Team (AMT) aims at eradicating the sense of immunity amongst the officials of the Education Department so that departmental affairs could be streamlined.
This was stated by a member of the Army Monitoring Team in a press briefing at Ten Divisional Headquarters here on Saturday. The member said his team would introduce a culture of work and accountability in the department.
He said the Punjab Teachers Foundation was established in 1960 for the welfare of teachers but it could not play its due role. The foundation, which had a sum of Rs 25 million as benevolent fund for the welfare of the teachers, could use only 250,000 uptil now. The office-bearers of the Foundation are benefiting from the interest on the principle amount of the fund deposited in the banks.
Talking about the school management committees (SMC), the AMT member said the previous government had inducted some corrupt elements in the education department, who could not deliver the desired results.
To a question, he said the Army would not define policies but take corrective measures to ensure that each and every official of the Education Department performed their duties properly.
