LAHORE: A Pakistani delegation comprising geneticists and agricultural scientists will hold a meeting with the British authorities in London on January 22 to sort out the issue related to DNA typing tests of the Basmati rice.

"We will, Inshallah, emerge successful in meeting this challenge", Federal Commerce Minister, Razak Dawood told a press conference here Sunday.

The delegation, according to a senior official of Food and Agriculture Ministry, comprising scientists from National Institute for Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering (NIBGE), National Agricultural Research Centre (NARC), and Pakistan Agricultural Research Council (PARC), will plead country's case regarding the pure lines of Basmati rice being grown in Paddy belt of Pakistan.

Dawood said, through issues like that of Basmati rice DNA typing, Indians were trying to hurt Pakistan commercially.

"Pakistan will beat them in UK the way it beat India in the field of rice in the European market", he hoped.

He said that the government would not compromise on the quality of the rice being exported.

He said that the rice exports of Pakistan have improved significantly.ÑAPP
