Fresh strategy urged

to enhance revenue collection

HYDERABAD: The divisional commissioner, Hyderabad, Imtiaz Kazi has urged the deputy commissioners of Hyderabad to change the outdated modus vivendi for the collection of revenue and adopt a new strategy to enhance revenue collection with a view to achieving the given targets.

He was presiding over a meeting of the deputy commissioners of his office here on Thursday.

The meeting, reviewed the recovery position and discussed ways and means to enhance revenue collection, especially land revenue. He said that revenue collection must be completed by the first week of February, 2000 and added that the assistant commissioners and Mukhtiarkars must be asked to pull up their socks not only to accelerate the pace of recovery of land revenue but also the Taqavi loans from the remaining defaulters.

Kazi further directed the deputy commissioners to ensure that the land revenue records were properly maintained and preserved and that no one was allowed to tamper with the records and commit forgery. He said the deputy commissioners must carry out random checking of revenue records to keep the concerned staff on guard and on their toes.

Kazi expressed dissatisfaction over the recovery of cooperative loans and asked the deputy commissioners to order the arrest of cooperative defaulters without any discrimination.

The meeting was earlier informed about the latest recovery position in respect of land revenue which was 49 percent (Kharif) while an amount of over Rs 305 million had been recovered from Saso defaulters just in one month from October 1999 to November 1999.

The meeting was attended among others by deputy commissioner Hyderabad, Rizwan Ahmed, Deputy Commissioner, Badin, Dr Lal Ahmed, Deputy Commissioner, Thatta, Capt Abid Hussain (Retd) add. Commissioner, Nazar Mohammad Laghari, Deputy Director (Recovery) Saso Imam Bux Baloch and other revenue officials.
