CBR notifies abolition of posts, rightsizing of collectorates

ISLAMABAD: The Central Board of Revenue has notified right-sizing of collectorates from 25 to 19 with effect from February 1, 2000, along with abolition of 1,000 posts.

The jurisdiction of the collectorates has been revised through a SRO (I)/ 2000 issued here on Thursday.

According to the notification, the functions of the Central Excise Collectorate, Karachi have been merged with the Collectorate of Sales Tax and Central Excise (East), Karachi, the Collectorate of Sales Tax (East), Karachi has been unified with the Collectorate of Sales Tax and Central Excise (West), Karachi.

The functions of collectorates of Customs Appraisement and Export, Lahore have been merged into the Collectorate of Customs Lahore, collectorates of Central Excise and Sales Tax, Lahore have been unified in one collectorate of Sales Tax and Central Excise, Lahore.

The Collectorate of Customs and Central Excise, Quetta and the Collectorate of Sales Tax, Hub have been unified in a single Collectorate of Customs, Sales Tax and Central Excise, Quetta.

The Collectorate of Customs and Central Excise, Hyderabad and the Collectorate of Sales Tax, Hyderabad have been merged into the Collectorate of Customs Sales Tax and Central Excise, Hyderabad, the Collectorate of Customs and Central Excise, Multan and the Collectorate of Sales Tax, Multan have been unified into the Collectorate of Customs, Sales Tax and Central Excise, Multan.

The Collectorate of Customs and Central Excise, Gujranwala has been merged into the Collectorate of Customs, Sambrial-Sialkot, the Collectorate of Sales Tax, Gujranwala has been merged into the Collectorate of Sales Tax and Central Excise, Gujranwala, the Collectorate of Customs and Central Excise, Rawalpindi has been merged into the Collectorate of Customs, Rawalpindi, the Collectorate of Sales Tax, Rawalpindi has been unified in the Collectorate of Sales Tax and Central Excise, Rawalpindi.

According to break-up, 62 posts of officials from Grade-17 to Grade-21 while 1,000 posts of Grades 2 to 12 had been abolished with immediate effect.

In the Islamabad Revenue Division seven posts from grades 1 to 20 have also been abolished with immediate effect.

The CBR has issued instructions to the Accountant General, Pakistan Revenues, Peshawar that "all temporary as well as permanent posts along with staff sanctioned for Central Excise units and offices of the defunct Collectorate of Customs and Central Excise, Peshawar stand transferred to the re-organized Collectorate of Sales Tax and Central Excise, Peshawar with effect from February 1, 2000".
