20000128Across-the-board accountability to continue: CE
IQBAL KHATTAK
PESHAWAR: Chief Executive General Pervez Musharraf on Thursday reiteraled his government's pledge to continue across-the-board accountability, assuring that the corrupts would not go scot-free.
He was talking to elders of Siri Behlol area in Tekhtbhai Tehsil, some 65 Kilometer in north of Peshawar, after taking stock of a desilting campaign in the area.
"The process of accountability will continue till its completion. The society will be purged of corrupt elements," the Chief Executive told elders, who gathered to see him.
Arguing in defence of slow accountability process, the Chief Executive said it was because of "gathering evidence about irregularities committed by (corrupt) elements".
"If someone thinks and gives the impression that nothing is being done on part of the government about accountability, it is totally wrong," General Musharraf remarked.
General Musharraf addressing mostly the poor, made them believe that the elite and wealthier people were involved in corrupt practices.
The Chief Executive also praised the people's overwhelming support to the army run desilting campaign. "It's a great example of the unity that the people from different walks of life work together."
He said the government had saved million of rupees by involving the army Jawans in desilting campaign. "It shows the army, students, government servants and police all belong to one country and the nation," he opined.
