Lecture on 'engulfed port of Indus Delta' today

KARACHI: Madame Monique Kervran, director, research at National Research Centre, Paris, will give a lecture on "The engulfed port of Indus Delta" at the SG Forum Auditorium of Alliance Francaise de Karachi, on Friday at 6:30 p.m., a press release said on Thursday.

Since 1989, the Archaeological Mission financed by the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been conducting extensive research in Sindh.

The studies of Madame Kervran at the sites of Gharo, Keti Bandar and Thatta have revealed that the inhabitants of the port cities of Sindh had relocated their dwellings from the North-West to the South-East as the Indus changed its course.

Since 1996, Madame Kervran has focused her attention on the ancient fort in Sehwan Sharif. She devotes eight to ten weeks to conduct research at the site to determine the exact age of this marvellous citadel. She is assisted in her research by Pakistani archaeologists and workers.

Recently, French Ambassador Yannick Gerard, accompanied by the French Consul General Gilles Bonnaud, visited Sehwan Sharif to assess the work done by Madame Kervran.
