Govt depts asked to prepare lists of staff for rightsizing

ISLAMABAD: All ministries including autonomous and semi-autonomous departments have been directed by the government to prepare lists of staff for rightsizing in coming weeks, it is reliably learnt.

The ministries have been directed to prepare list of downsizing staff in three categories of corrupt, inefficient and political appointees.

The sources added that government has directed in its communique to prepare these lists on urgent basis and ministries are likely to hold internal meetings on downsizing staff within a week.

The government, a few days back, had directed all departments to complete action on a file in one week time and had ordered placement of an annex on the front of every file to monitor its pace of movement. The sources said that this order was helpful for the general public but now it is likely to hurt the lower staff, as senior officials could not keep these instructions pending for more than a week.

According to the sources, corrupt officials once dismissed from service are likely to be prosecuted, the inefficient may get a silver if not golden handshake while the political appointees are not likely to get anything.

However, the sources suspect that politicised bureaucracy, at the top, may escape the rightsizing drive.
