Govt will do away
with anomalies of
pensioners: Attiya
ISLAMABAD: Dr. Attiya Inayatullah, member National Security Council (NSC) on Tuesday assured the pensioners that the government would do away with anomalies and disparities among different categories of pensioners.
She was addressing here at the annual general meeting of the Association for the Welfare of the Retired Persons.
Association President Abdul Majid Mufti and Prof. Syed Wadood Ahmed Jilani also spoke on the occasion.
Dr. Attiya said that she would help to activate early implementation of the 1999 announced dispensation that pensioners of 70 years age and above would get revised pensions on the same scales at which new pensioners of the same rank were sanctioned pension.
The NSC member said the chief executive strongly believes in actions and not in words. The government after take over announced withdrawal of 10 percent withholding tax on savings schemes which would also benefit the pensioners.
Dr. Attiya said that state-of-the-art gerontology is urgently needed in Pakistan. Every teaching hospital should have state-of-the-art gerontology unit, well-equipped and well-staffed with specialists and supporting staff.
Dr. Attiya said that 1999 was declared as the year of the elderly persons but regretted that the pronouncements made by the previous government to achieve the cheap political mileage, barely one of them was implemented.
She invited proposals from the pensioners to resolve their problems.
She assured the pensioners that the government would help them in the establishment of a CNG station for the welfare of the retired persons.
Earlier in his address of welcome, Abdul Majid Mufti highlighted the activities of the association carrying out for the welfare of the retired persons.
The president of the association presented a shield to the chief guest on the occasion.ÑAPP
