21 alleged criminals killed in Hyderabad during 1999
HYDERABAD: Twentyone notorious outlaws were killed while 91 others apprehended in 23 different encounters with Hyderabad Range Police during 1999, a police report revealed.
The report also mentioned four police officers and personnel were martyred while four others wounded during the confrontation. It was during the same period that 24 cases of abduction were registered at Hyderabad with local police successfully recovering 23 of those kidnapped. One of the kidnapee lost his life during rescue operation.
Hyderabad Range Police sources mentioned that between January 1 to December 31, 1999, they, presently headed by DIG Saud Mirza, also recovered 1,216 lethal weapons of different kind including 36 AK047 rifles, 237 shot guns, 02 G-3 rifles, 74 rifles, 147 revolvers, 720 pistols and mousers. These were beside 22 hand grenades, 16 daggers and 7,052 live rounds and cartridges seized during the same year.
In the year 1999, the Hyderabad police along with Thatta, Badin and Dadu police authorities also arrested 10,390 persons under different charges. Out of 10,390 arrested persons, 8,695 were nabbed under Section 107 Cr.P.C., 867 under Section 109 Cr.PC., 436 under Section 110 Cr.P.C. while 392 were booked under Sindh Crime Control Act.
The police also succeeded in arresting of 73 proclaimed offenders, 2,612 absconders and 122 military deserters from different parts of Hyderabad division during the year 1999.
In its anti-narcotic campaign, the Hyderabad Range Police apprehended 797 drug traffickers, peddlers and carriers and recovered over three kilogrammes of heroin powders, 1,632 kilogrammes of charas, 275 kilogrammes of opium, 623 kilogrammes of bhang and huge quantity of wine and illicit liquor. In this regard, the police have registered 680 cases and challaned 676 cases in the relevant courts.
Besides, the DIG Hyderabad Range also initiated strict departmental action against those police officers and personnel, who were found guilty of mis-conduct and had mis-behaved with law-abiding citizens.
During the departmental action, 05 sub-inspectors, 15 assistant sub-inspectors, 12 head constables and 144 constables were dismissed from their services, while services of 23 inspectors, 89 sub-inspectors, 81 assistant sub-inspectors, 23 head constables, 125 constables, 07 sub-inspectors, 04 assistant sub-inspectors and 06 Head Constables have also been demoted.ÑAPP
