Govt urged to invite proposals for new labour policy

KARACHI: The provincial working committee of Habib Bank Workers' Front on Tuesday demanded of the government to invite recommendations and suggestions from all labour unions of the country before drawing up the new national labour policy.

The working committee, which met under the presidentship of Habibuddin Junaidee, central president of the HBWF, asked the government to call a tripartite labour conference and invite the representatives of employers, employees and concerned government departments to participate in the conference.

The new labour policy should be structured on the basis of recommendations made by such a conference, the committee suggested.

The committee also adopted four resolutions: a) calling for deletion of two amendments i.e. newly added of Section 27-B and Section 2-A, made in the Banking Companies Ordinance 1977; b) calling for tripartite labour conference; c) demanding across the board accountability of all sections of the society; and demanding across the board increase in pay and allowances of all clerical and non-clerical staff of Habib Bank.
