Essentials' prices on increase
RECORDER REPORT
ISLAMABAD: The prices of most of the essential items depicted increase during the last week which ended on January 20, 2000.
According to the Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI), released here on Monday, average value of 17 essential items increased, of 8 declined while the prices of another 22 items remained unchanged during the last week.
Eggs, sugar and gram pulse marked sharp growth in their prices while the prices of other items improved marginally.
Eggs price increased by 4.4 percent, sugar 4 percent, gram pulse 3.1 percent, garlic 1.4 percent, rice basmati (broken) 1.3 percent, red chillies 0.9 percent, masoor pulse, curd 0.8 percent each, bread, mash pulse and tea package 0.8 percent each, cooking oil (Habib) 0.5 percent, vegetable ghee tin, mutton and beef gained 0.4 percent, gur 0.3 percent while bananas rates improved by 0.2 percent.
However, average prices of the following 22 items remained unchanged: Rice irri-6, moong pulse, milk fresh, milk powdered (Nido), vegetable ghee (loose), mustard oil, salt powdered, tea, cooked beef, dal, cigarettes, lawn, shirting, sandal gents/ladies, chapal sponge, kerosene, firewood, electric bulb (60 watt), match box, washing and bath soaps.
