Comstech seminar today

ISLAMABAD: "Biotechnology for Development" is the theme of a three-day international seminar being organised by the OIC Standing Committee on Scientific and Technological Cooperation (Comstech) here from January 25.

President Rafiq Tarar is expected to inaugurate the seminar, which is being attended by professionals of biotechnology and genetic engineering from different scientific institutions of OIC countries.

Seventeen experts in agriculture and biotechnology from OIC countries including Bangladesh, Iran, Egypt, Nigeria, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Senegal and Sudan and 11 experts from Pakistan will attend the seminar.

Dr Kausar Abdullah Malik, Chairman, Pakistan Agricultural Research Council (PARC) will present his keynote address on "Agricultural Biotechnology - Challenges Ahead" in the inaugural session on Tuesday.

Dr Anwar Naseem, Adviser on Science, Comstech, said the objective of the seminar is to initiate coordinated effort to pursue the development of biotechnology in the OIC region for the benefit of the people.
