Razak shows keen interest in stalls at Frankfurt textiles fair

KARACHI: Commerce Minister, Abdul Razak Dawood visited textiles stalls of competitor countries such as China, India, Bangladesh etc, as well as Pakistani stalls at the Heimtextil Fair in Frankfurt from January 13 to 16, 2000, exporters returning from the famous international fair said.
Shabir Ahmed, Chairman, Pakistan Bedwear Exporters Association (PBEA) who is also a leading exporter of bedwear, told Business Recorder that the minister visited each of the Pakistani stalls and spent a long time there to inquire about their problems. He also held talks with the buyers visiting Pakistani stalls inquiring about their requirements of quality.
He said that it was for the first time that a Pakistani minister took such keen interest in any international textile fair and visited stalls of the competing countries which would go a long way in formulating positive policies for the textile sector in the country.
Razak not only listened to the views of the Pakistanis holding stalls at Heimtextil but also gave them useful advice on how to successfully display their products.
The minister who was accompanied by Tariq Ikram, Chairman, Export Promotion Bureau, during his stay in Frankfurt, called a meeting of Pakistani commercial counsellors assigned to European countries and gave them instructions regarding marketing of Pakistan's textile exports to their countries of assignment.
The PBEA's Chief claimed that the exporters participating in the Heimtextils managed to get better business due to the guidance of the Commerce Minister and would help in tremendous boost in export of textile products to Germany and other European countries.
