Food Deptt's audit: clarification

KARACHI: A spokesman of the Food Department has contradicted a news item appearing in a section of the press that the department had been avoiding audit of its accounts for the past 30 years and called it as baseless and unfounded.

Explaining the position, the spokesman said that Director General Audit has conducted the audit of department's accounts for the year 1997-98, while tthe audit for 1998-99 will be carried out in February 2000.

He further clarified that DG Audit conducts audit of food department and its affiliated offices on regular basis, while special team of finance department also conducts audit of accounts.

The spokesman said the department welcomes any audit of its accounts and necessary measures have already been taken in this regard.

He said internal audit of department's accounts had already been completed and it cannot avoid audit by the Audit Department of Government of Pakistan, which is a routine exercise.ÑAPP
