Double murder
convict executed
MULTAN: Ata Mohammad, 68, of Mian Channu district Khanewal, a convict of double murder, was executed at the New Central Jail here on Thrusday morning.
Jail, Deputy Superintendent Jam Aziz-ur-Rahman, told APP that in May 1989, Ata Mohammad along with his two sons, Ghulam Rasool and Ghulam Abbas, killed their relatives Inayatullah and Aziz Ahmed over some family dispute.
Khanewal Sessions Judge on December 1990, sentenced Ata Mohammad to death while his sons were awarded life imprisonment.
All appeals of the three convicts were rejected by the courts concerned.
Mercy appeal of Ata was also rejected by the President. The convicts, through their family, tried to effect a reconciliation but in vain.
Consequently, Ata Mohammad was executed on Thursday morning at 6.30 a.m. and his body was handed over to the heirs.
On Wednesday, his relatives met him for the last time. According to Jail, deputy superintendent Ata Mohammad said had he been executed at the time of his conviction by the trial court it would have been easier for him to die.ÑAPP
