Jimmy's painting to be displayed as 'object of the month'

KARACHI: The National Museum of Pakistan, Karachi, has selected the painting on Pakistan movement created by noted artist, Jimmy Engineer, as "object of the month".

Never in the past the museum had ever selected a painting for display as an object of the month and it is for the first time that it has been done.

Jimmy had painted the Pakistan movement in 1980 on canvas in oil. The size of the original painting is 13x4.5 feet and shows distressed people on carts and on foot migrating to the then newly created state of Pakistan from India.

This painting has been exhibited all over Pakistan in major cities, and has received numerous awards including the prestigious National Endowment of the Arts Award, USA.

Jimmy is the only artist from Pakistan having been conferred this award.

This painting was shown through slides at the Modern Museum, New York in 1988 which won the artist the prestigious award.

The title of the painting is in honour of the men, women and children who sacrificed their lives in the struggle for Independence which led to the creation of Pakistan.

The painting has been covered by Pakistan Television in its various documentaries and is considered as the most priceless painting in the history of Pakistan.

Meanwhile, the National Museum is organising an exhibition of Quranic Manuscripts in collaboration the Khadim Ali Shah Bukhari Foundation.

On the occasion, an Art Gallery developed in cooperation with the foundation will also be inaugurated.

The "Quranic Gallery" which was closed because of treatment of termite and repair of airconditioning plant, is being reopened for public. APP
