to improve jail

conditions

KARACHI: The Sindh Home Department on Saturday constituted committees in each district of the province with immediate effect to ensure improvement in the conditions of prisoners and prisons.

According to a notification, issued by the Home Department, the committees have been constituted in order to reduce the prison population and also to generally improve the conditions in jails.

The district and sessions judge will act as chairman and district magistrate and district superintendent of police will be the members of the committee.

The committees will examine the under trial cases involving offence mentioned below and will expedite findings of such cases and will take immediate measures to achieve stipulated task:-

Under section 107/109/151/55/110 Cr. P.C, having possessed less than 5 gm heroin, non-payment of fines, female prisoners with suckling babies, military deserters, offenders under Motor Vehicle Ordinance, UTPs, who continue to languish in jails for want of bail for more than one-year except those involved under section 302 PPC.ÑAPP
