AGP calls for

improving

accuracy of accounts

ISLAMABAD: The Auditor General of Pakistan, Manzoor Hussain, has said there is need for further improvement in the accuracy and completeness of the accounts despite visible improvement in this regard over the last year.

Inaugurating the conference of the Accountants-General, held in the office of the Auditor General of Pakistan here on Tuesday, he emphasised the importance of yearly finance and appropriation accounts. He said that he would welcome suggestions for improvements so that users can get more benefit out of it.

The agenda items for the conference included the timely preparation of the annual accounts and their accuracy and completeness.

He suggested that a task force may look into this aspect and suggest practical measures for improvement. This should not be just a routine and legal requirement but should cater to users' needs.

The Auditor-General also asked the conference participants to deliberate on the following issues and come up with some practical solutions for consideration by the government:

Ñ How the rush of expenditure in the months of May and June of the financial year can be avoided to minimise the chances of waste and for better financial control and management?

Ñ How the pre-audit function in the offices of the Accountants-General can be revamped to minimise the chance of delayed payment?

Ñ What alternative system can be introduced to improve the system of maintenance of GP Fund accounts and their final payment?

Ñ All Accountants-General offices should prepare a comprehensive database to facilitate payment of pensions.

ÑÊExamine whether it is fessible to introduce the system of making payment of salaries to all non-gazetted employees also as was being done for the gazetted employees.

The Controller General, AGPR, and its sub-offices at Karachi, Lahore, Peshawar, Quetta and Gilgit, AG Punjab, AG Sindh, AG NWFP, AG AJK and D G Accounts Works participated in the conference.ÑAPP
