Lawyers move LHC for return of Kulsoom's passport
RECORDER REPORT
LAHORE: Mr. Justice Allah Nawaz of the Lahore High Court issued notices to Deputy Attorney General of Pakistan and Advocate General of Punjab for January 20 in a petition filed by People Lawyers Forum (PLF) praying to the court to direct the respondent officials to return the passport of Kulsoom Nawaz, wife of deposed prime minister Nawaz Sharif.
Petitioner's counsel contended before the court that the passport of Kulsoom Nawaz was taken away by the respondent officials after November 12 when the Nawaz Government was dismissed by the military. He said that Kulsoom Nawaz wanted to go to Saudi Arabia to perform Umra but when she approached them for her passport they refused to return it.
He said Kulsoom Nawaz is a respectable citizen and wife of the deposed prime minister and she neither has any concern with politics nor was required by the police in any criminal case.
He said the respondent officials at the behest of their high ups were harassing the family members of the deposed prime minister and refused to return her passport with mala fide intention.
He, therefore, prayed to the court to direct the respondent officials to return the passport to Kulsoom Nawaz enabling her to go to Saudi Arabia to perform Umra.
The court after hearing the counsel at length issued notices to the law officers and directed them to appear before the court with necessary instructions.
