Free medicines

LAHORE: Edhi Highway Centre, Gujrat, provided free medicines to 17,805 patients during last year besides providing clutches, wheel chairs, white canes etc. to disabled persons during the last year. A spokesman of Edhi Welfare Centre Gujrat said as many as 21 unclaimed bodies were buried while 38 bodies were handed over to the heirs after giving them 'coffin' during the last year 1999. The centre also provided 1960 kg meat, 2,670 pairs of clothes, 5 beds, 1,687 kg food items during the year. It also provided polio drops and vitamin 'A' drop to 12,410 children while 330 dead bodies and 1,771 patients were shifted to hospitals and houses during the same period.ÑAPP

World Telecom moot from 26th

LAHORE: A two-day International Conference on Telecommunications will be held at a local hotel from January 26 under the aegis of the magazine 'The Development Times' and Institute Telecommunication Engineers Pakistan (INSTEP). The "world renowned telecom experts will present papers on various subjects," Mian Fazal Ahmad, the chairman organising committee said here on Monday. He said that a two-day exhibition of telecom terminal equipments, services providers and vendors would also coincide with the conference.ÑAPP

UNHCR representative meets Governor

PESHAWAR: The UNHCR representative in Pakistan Hasim Utkan called on the Governor NWFP Lt. Gen. Mohammad Shafiq (Retd) here at Governor's House this morning. He remained with the Governor for some time and discussed matters relating to Afghan refugees residing in NWFP and tribal areas as well as their rehabilitation in Afghanistan after their return to their homeland.ÑAPP
