International sympo begins today
KARACHI: The 8th international symposium on natural product chemistry will begin on Tuesday at a local hotel under the auspices of HEJ Research Institute of Chemistry, University of Karachi.
The Governor of Sindh, Air Marshal Mohammad Azim Daudpota (Retd), will be the chief guest on the occasion. Renowned scientist and Director of HEJ Research Institute of Chemistry, Prof. Dr. Atta-ur-Rehman said that many of the leading scientists from around the world would take part in the proceedings.ÑAPP
Power shutdown
LAHORE: The power supply from the following feeders will remain suspended on account of important maintenance of power supply system and grids.

Lesco open kutchery on 19th
LAHORE: Lesco Superintending Engineer, 5th Lahore Electricity circle, Mohammed Iqbal Jan will hold an open kutchery on January 19 at 10 am at the office of SDO Kasur subdivision 3.
He will hear the complaints of consumers of Kasur subdivisions 3 and 4 on the occasion, and issue on the spot instruction for redressal of their complaints.ÑAPP
Handloom products fair on 21st
KARACHI: Hawwa Craft Centre, the Lahore based women NGO having initiated the handloom weaving projects for women belonging to urban slums of Lahore and its surrounding localities plans to hold display of products prepared by these artisans here at Alliance Francais, Karachi on Jan 21 and Jan 22 from 9:30 a.m to 7:00 p.m. The handloom products prepared by Hawwa women from Multan, Tharparkar and Bahawalpur respectively will also be available on sale at the same venue.ÑAPP
Two bus passengers crushed to death
CHICHAWATNI: Two persons were crushed to death while perched on the steps of a crowded bus when it overtook a speeding truck, near the railway station stand, Harrapa. The Lahore bound bus No. LXC-4567 overtook truck No. FGP-1584 brushing the passengers clinging to the bus, door causing fatal injuries. Both died soon afterwards. The deceased were identified as Yaseen and Anwar-ul-Haq, residents of 144/9-L. The bus driver fled from the scene.ÑAPP
One killed in road mishap
RAHIM YAR KHAN: A man was killed in an accident Sangerpur 45 km from Rahim Yar Khan. Eshan-ul-Haq Chaudhry of Sangerpur was driving to Sadiqabad on his car No. 662 RND when near Chak 28/NP his car collided with a trawler No. 4996 LSB. He died on the spot, and his car was totally smashed.ÑAPP
Revenue staff asked to ensure 100 pc recovery
OKARA: District Collector Okara has directed all the Revenue officers to spend more time in the field to ensure maximum recovery of agri bank loans, 'malia', 'abiana' etc and make the recovery drive 100 percent successful. The performance of every revenue officer was reviewed at the meeting, and recoveries amounting Rs 12.6 million were deposited in the government treasury.ÑAPP
Goldsmith robbed
MULTAN: Unidentifies thieves stole 10 km silver, 15 tolas (180 grams) gold and Rs 10,000 cash from the shop of a goldsmith. According to police sources said goldsmith Mohammad Bakhsh went to his shop in Mohalla Kirri Dawood Khan on Sunday, and was shocked to find the main gate of the casting shop unlocked. The safe containing gold was also found broken, with gold, silver and cash amounting to Rs 222,900 missing.ÑAPP
