hails Zia's removal

HYDERABAD: Sindh Doctors Council has hailed the decision of the Sindh government to remove the Sindh Health Secretary Zia-ul-Islam from his post.

Addressing a news conference at the Hyderabad Press Club here on Sunday, the office-bearers of the council included Dr A. D. Memon, Naveed Memon and Allah Dad Kerio said that Zia-ul-Islam had declared his office as no go area for the doctors and the withdrawal of deputation and detailment of docotors 400 health centres had to be closed creating a host of difficulties for the patients.

In a charge-sheet to the former health secretary, they alleged that no medicines were purchased during three months for the sake of commission which had created acute shortage of medicines in the hospitals, Director General Health Services Sindh Dr Hadi Bux Jatoi, who was hurdle in the way of the Health Secretary, was placed under suspension, he had delayed the reinstatement of 1,384 contract doctors, promoted a junior professor as professor of orthopaedic and appointed and 18 grade officer to grade 20.

They also levelled many other allegations against the former health secretary and expressed grave concern over the statement of LMC academic council.

They claimed that the job of the council was to improve the quality of medical education but it was indulging in politics with a view to pleasing the government.
