H'abad small traders plea to CE
RECORDER REPORT
HYDERABAD: The Anjuman-e-Tajran-e-Sindh has made an impassioned appeal to Chief Executive, Gen Pervez Musharraf to stop the displacement of poor people and small traders, which was being carried out in Sindh in the garb of anti-encroachment drive.
In an SOS message to the Chief Executive, Anjuman President Zakir Bin Zahid said that the functionaries of the Hyderabad Municipal Corporation and the local administration were using the name of the army in destroying the livelihood of the poor people and the small traders.
He pointed out that the push-cart owners as well as the cabin owners have been doing their business for the last 50 years with the permission of the Corporation and the local administration and they were not only paying taxes but also "Bhatta" to police and the corporation fuctionaries.
He claimed that the bureaucracy was against the present government and by using the name of army in removing the encroachments, they wanted to bring the people on the roads.
He appealed to the Chief Executive to issue immediate orders against the displacement of small traders in the garb of anti-encroachment drive and direct the local army officers to take the representatives of small traders into confidence before any one was rendered jobless.
He offered full cooperation of the business community to the military government.
