Health hygiene programme
KASUR: Local Government & Rural Development Department and Unicef have jointly arranged a programme on community health and hygiene. The main objective of this programme is to create awareness among the villagers about health care principles and provide them with necessary bathroom utensils to induce them to construct latrines in homes that lack these. A special account has been established for the purpose. Meanwhile, sanitation committees will be established in the villages comprising the Secretary Union Council, kirana merchants and social workers. Committee members will elect their own chairman.ÑAPP

Farmer booked
CHICHAWATNI: A case has been registered against a farmer of Chak 120/7-ER on charges of power theft. The theft was discovered when the SDO Mesco I Mian Channu along with a team raided the village and saw that the electricity meter of the agricultural tubewell connection of farmer Parvez Ahmad had been turned upside down. Kassowal police have yet to arrest the accused.-APP
Diploma in Fiqah for women
KARACHI: Renowned religious scholar, Dr. Farhat Naseem Hashmi will inaugurate a one-year diploma programmes in Quran and Sunnah for women here on January 17 at 9 a.m. The course is being organised by Al-Huda International Institute of Islamic Education for Women. Besides the course participants, women interested in attending discussion on issues related to religion and society, problems confronted by Muslim Ummah in general and in specific instances, have also been invited to attend the event.ÑAPP

KASUR: The DC and SSP Kasur will hold a series of open kutcheries to provide justice at their doorsteps. The open courts will be held on January 17 at the Union Council, Usmanwala; on January 24 at police station Ilahabad, and on January 31 at the municipal committee Kasur.ÑAPP
Rapists get death
GUJRANWALA: Judge of special Anti-terrirorist Court, Kh. Javed Ahmed has awarded death sentence to Kashif alias Kashi and life imprisonment and a fine of Rs. 50,000 to Imran alias Mani in a gang rape case. In case of non payment the accused will have to undergo further two years' rigorous imprisonment. According to the prosecution, the convicts had broken into the house of one Habib Ullah on September 12, 1999 and committed gang rape with the women of the house.ÑAPP
Baitul Maal grant
LAHORE: After the seizure of its records October last, the Pakistan Bait-ul-Maal has released the first grant of Rs. 50 million. Official sources told APP here on Saturday that on a special directive of the Chief Executive, General Pervez Musharraf, they sent a cheque for Rs. 50 million to his Secretariat for the benefit of deserving patients of kidney centres. Responding to a question they said the disbursement of the funds depends on the discretion of the Chief Executive. No other funds has been released from the Pakistan Bait-ul-Maal or Punjab Bait-ul-Maal since October last.ÑAPP
