Govt continues free kidney treatment
ISLAMABAD: Chief Executive General Pervez Musharraf has directed continuation of the free kidney treatment facilities in the country "with a more institutionalised approach."
Issuing these instructions, the Chief Executive has directed that all expenditures on the scheme be met by the Pakistan Baitul-Mal (PBM).
According to official sources, the government is committed to provide this most expensive treatment free of cost to all kidney patients throughout the country irrespective of their status.
The sources said despite all difficulties the scheme has not only been continued, "but all the operational hurdles and legal problems have been overcome."
The treatment of the kidney patients was not stopped for a single day while all the 100 centres were given the written assurance regarding payment of their dues and were asked not to stop provision of facilities to any patient at all, the sources added. APP
