Cleanliness drive begins

KARACHI: The 15-days long cleanliness campaign started here on Saturday with the lifting of garbage dump with the help of a loader in Yasinabad, Block-8 of Federal B. Area, District Central by KMC Administrator Fahim Zaman Khan.

The District Central Administrator, Muhammed Hussain Syed and other municipal officers were present on the occasion.

Later the KMC Administrator visited Block-16 and 3 of Federal B. Area, Karimabad and adjoining localities.

The DMC Central Administrator in a briefing on the occasion informed that besides manpower, the DMC has 120 small and large size vehicles and machinery to carry out cleanliness operation. He said its results will start showing up by next week.

Fahim Zaman visited the District East and drove through Tariq Road, Khalid Bin Walid road and various localities of PECHS besides Gulshan-e-Iqbal and saw the on-going cleanlines operation.

He also visited the DMC's complaint centres and watched the arrangements for receipt of public complaints.

Abdul Kabir Kazi informed that his DMC has started the cleanliness campaign with 120 vehicles and available manpower and machinery. He said although this District has higher number of katchi abadis, but the employees are determined to give better results.

Talking to people on the occasion, Fahim Zaman said that no campaign can succeed without public participation. He appealed to the people to dump their garbage at "Kachra Kundi" or at one place to facilitate its lifting.

He reiterated KMC's all cooperation and support to DMCs in the on-going cleanliness drive in greater interest of city.

However the real task would be that of DMCs for maintaining better sanitary conditions.

He said the employees and officials working hard during the campaign would be awarded with cash prize and commendation certificates. However those showing indifference or slackness would liable themselves to action.

He said that Sunday holiday of employees of all the departments associated with the campaign has been cancelled as it will continue on Sunday also.

Meanwhile 13 complaint centres have been setup in various areas of the city to receive public complaints.
