Makkah flour case to go to environment appellate tribunal
LAHORE: Environment Protection Department (EPD) will shift the case of Makkah flour grinding Chakki to Environment Apellate Tribunal on Saturday after withdrawing it from the court of environment magistrate.
The case was filed before the environment magistrate on December 16 by EPD but the legal experts of the department decided to shift this case along with some others to the appellate tribunal directly under the law, so that the accused may be punished under section 14 and 15 of the environment protection act, EPD sources told APP on Friday.
EPD initiated the case on a complaint received from the residents of Pukki Thatti, Millat Road, Lahore on August 5, that the flour 'Chakki' was creating a terrible noise and (flour) dust pollution during the wheat griding.
The department after due consideration ordered the Chakki-owner to stop its operation immediatley and shift it to some suitable place within a period of 30 days but its order was disobeyed, whih forced the EPD to file a suit before the court.
The department has also urged the people to bring to its notice factories and other such units polluting the environment, so that action may be taken against them to ensure a clean environment to the citizens. APP
