Govt accused of using media in favour of CTBT signing
Recorder report
LAHORE: Jamaat-e-Islami Deputy Secretary General Farid Ahmed Piracha has accused the government of using the national media to influence public opinion in favour of signing of the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty (CTBT).
In a statement issued here on Thursday, he said that Radio and Television were national assets, and for them to present programmes that are contrary to collective stance of the nation amounted to an unjustified use of national resources.
Piracha said that while, on the one hand, it was being announced that CTBT would not be signed without creating a national consensus, on the other, viewpoint of a small group of people, who owed their loyalties to the United States, was being imposed on the nation.
He observed that atomic capability could serve as an effective tool against any Indian aggression. He threatened that JI would not remain a silent spectator in case of a bargain on the nuclear capability of Pakistan.
