Arrest warrants of 164 Co-op defaulters issued

KARACHI: The Provincial Cooperation Department has issued warrants of arrest against 164 Cooperative defaulters following directive of the Provincial Agricultural Minister, Iftekhar Soomro, for initiation of legal action against them and referring their cases to National Accountability Bureau (NAB).

Reviewing the recovery performance of the Cooperation Department at his office here on Thursday, the minister made it clear that strict legal action will be taken against defaulters without any discrimination and no one will be allowed to usurp the government money.

The Provincial Secretary Cooperation Munawar Opel informed the meeting that instructions have been issued to Commissioners for the arrest of defaulters and steps being taken for sending their cases to NAB.

The minister was informed that Rs. 31.181 million have so far been recovered out of total dues of Rs. 953.683 till January 7, 2000. Of the total dues, the actual amount stands at Rs. 469.688 million with mark-up being at Rs. 483.955 million.

Of the total dues recovered, Rs. 19.952 million were recovered during the period from July 1999 to November 1999 and Rs. 10.493 million during December 1999.

The meeting was informed that Rs. 0.350 million were recovered from Thatta, Rs. 1.631 million from Hyderabad, Rs. 1.904 from Badin, Rs. 4.455 million from Mirpurkhas, Rs. 9.302 million from Rs. Sanghar, Rs. 1.350 from Dadu, Rs. 8.392 million from Nawabshah, Rs. 0.534 million from Rs. Khairpur, Rs. 1.621 million from Sukkur, Rs. 0.984 million from Jacobabad and Rs. 0.654 million from Larkana.

It was further informed that since January 7, 1999, Rs. 10.987 million were recovered till January 7, 2000.

Iftekhar Soomro directed the officials to discharge their responsibilities with honesty and dedication and not to accept any pressure or favour. APP
