RECORDER REPORT
HYDERABAD: The Academic Council, Liaquat Medical College, which met at the Jamshoro campus here on Wednesday, has expressed utmost indignation over what it called "the efforts of the self-seeking elements who have tried to vitiate the atmosphere and relations of professional fraternity by giving a purely administrative exercise of the Health Department a jaundiced and ethnic colour".
The council extended its full support to the Health Department in its endeavours to streamline the health services and patient care in its overall perspective in the interest of the poor masses at large.
The council appreciated the decision of the Health Department to categorically deny that the postings and transfers being made were not based on district domiciles.
The council referred to its earlier resolution of January 7, 1999, expressly identifying those elements who were working in furtherance of their own ulterior and political motives.
The meeting appreciated and expressed its full satisfaction over the manner the Health Department had tackled the burning issue of contract doctors, which had been exploited to the hilt by the vested interests.
The council resolved that the contract doctors should be given adequate opportunities for absorption into regular services.
The meeting requested the Health Department to ensure that the administrative changes in no way affected the genuine prospective candidates in pursuing post-graduate studies and training.
