KARACHI: Karachi and its suburbs received an overall 19 millimetres of winter rainfall, first of the new year, on Tuesday night, the Meteorological office said on Wednesday. The Met office has forecast fair weather for the next 24 hours.

The compilation of rain readings at the three sites, Karachi Airport, Shah Faisal Air Force Base, and Masroor Air Base, could not be collected in time to release it to the press due to some defect in the department's communication system.

People who were celebrating the third day of Eid-ul-Fitr were taken by surprise when the atmospheric temperature dropped suddenly and rain, accompanied with a cool breeze, started falling. Rains started at about 8:30 p.m. and continued till late in the night. At about 9 p.m. there was a heavy downpour which created difficulties for the vehicular traffic. The worst affected were the motorcyclists and scooterists who were seen looking for shelter to save themselves from rains.

Many motorcyclists and scooterists who were travelling along with their families, specially with children, were in real trouble.

Reports from other parts of Sindh said that Hyderabad, Sukkur, Larkana, and Nawabshah had also received rainfall. Welcome phenomenon for wheat crop in Sindh.
