Int'l private leased lines: PTCL cuts rates by 25pc
RECORDER REPORT
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) has reduced international, private, leased line rates by 25 percent from January 1, 2000.
According to a PTCL spokesman, the board of directors took the decision in its 53rd meeting on December 27 last following the directives of the Chief Executive, General Pervez Musharraf to promote information technology and Internet in Pakistan.
The meeting reviewed the prices of international bandwidth for leased lines and approved upto 25 percent reduction in the current tariff.
This concession is over and above the previous reduction given in the last two years and makes Pakistan's tariff highly competitive and much better than India, the UAE and other countries in the South Asia region, the spokesman added.
He said that the charges for PTCL international leased lines are now in the same range as those in the Far East. The new tariff will become effective from tomorrow (Saturday), a step forward towards projecting Pakistan as an "aggressive player as it enters the new millennium," he added.
