KARACHI: The International AIDS Association has developed a websidte in 7 languages for global health information.
This was stated by President International AIDS Association (USA), Dr. Ali Imran while addressing a seminar to celebrate the beginning of new millennium on theme "Global holistic medicine, new millennium and Internet & Information Technology."
The website has been developed in seven languages including Urdu, English, Arabic, Sindhi, Balochi, Pushto and Punjabi. The address is: www.urduhealth.cjb.net and www.go.to/urduhealth.
The seminar was attended by doctors, homoeopaths, artists, and dentists.
He said that doctors and computer experts could work together for the benefit of patients by offering them health advice on Internet.
"We have eliminated language barrier. Now people can communicate and contact their doctors on Internet clinic "Virtual web health clinic from anywhere in the world," Dr. Imran said.
He also highlighted the problems related to AIDS in Pakistan.
Internet should not be used in 21st Century for sex chatting, electronic romance or pornographic purpose but for useful education, he emphasized.
Liaquat Memorial Library Director, Dr. Mohammad Iftikhar Alam, said homoeopaths can cure and control diseases which at times, allopath physicians are unable to control.
Dr. Abdul Wahid of Unicef said that the fund was making sure that infants get immunised for all the major six immunisable diseases.
Associate Professor at JPMC, Dr. Shireen Bhutto said that women could also benefit from health tips being offered on Internet.
Others who spoke at the seminar included Farhan Javid, Uzma Lodhi, Dr. Sharaf Ali Shah, Dr. Mansoor, Dr. Syed Naseeruddin.
The association also organised a painting competition on the theme "health". Internationally famed artist Ami Gulgee gave away prizes to winners of the competition Uzma Saeed, Sahar Ahmed, Farida and Fauzia Hussain.-APP
