Sugar, khandsari

show rising trend

on commodity market

KARACHI: During week ended on February 5, the day Pakistan was observing as Kashmir Solidarity Day, some essential commodities showed rising trend.

Sugar rose rather sharply, so did khandsari, fine type rice and dal yellow peas were up, tea was mixed, milk steady. While plastic mouldings, Kirana, chemicals, moved both ways.

Sugar was twice jumped higher. The cumulative rise being inferior rose by Rs 80 to Rs 1,935, and better type up Rs 85 to Rs 1,955. Gur inferior also rose sharply, inferior by Rs 125, to Rs 1,400 and better type up Rs 75 to Rs 1,900 and Khandsari did not lag behind as inferior rose by Rs 100 to Rs 1,600 and better type earlier lost Rs 100 but later gained same amount to Rs 2000. Guwar, both attractive for the local as well as foreign markets rose twice, but loss was higher by Rs 54. Eventually, both types rose to Rs 1,822 and Rs 1,848. Australian gram twice fell to be seen closing at Rs 1,825 to Rs 1,875. Gram garda inferior lost Rs 60 to Rs 1,890 and better type shed Rs 70 to Rs 1,930. Beetle I earlier lost Rs 45 and better shed Rs 75, but later it gained Rs 15 to Rs 2,050, better type was up by Rs 25 to Rs 2,100. Beetle I conceded in two falls Rs 115 to Rs 1,950 and Rs 1,990. Gram dal Punjab lost sharply Rs 125 to Rs 2,100 and Rs 2,150, sela basmati inferior quoted at Rs 1,800. Better type rose by Rs 50 to Rs 1,900, sela kernal inferior was quoted at Rs 2,200, but better type was up by Rs 100 to Rs 2,500, dal yellow peas inferior rose by Rs 75 to Rs 1,375, better type lost Rs 25 to Rs 1,400, gram dal Punjab lost Rs 100 in two dips to be quoted at Rs 2,100 and Rs 2,150. Gram imported was last quoted at Rs 1,825 to Rs 1,875, masoor dal imported lost Rs 50 to Rs 2,650, and better type lost Rs 100 to Rs 2,700, yellow peas down by Rs 25 to Rs 1,240 and better type lost Rs 30 to Rs 1290, urad Punjab better type was quoted at Rs 2,500, yellow peas better type at Rs 1,290. N T Sawgin was higher at Rs 343 and Rs 354, and cotton cakes quoted last Rs 360 and Rs 380.

Elsewhere, teas from various countries depicted mixed trend. In early trading they were PF-1 plus C grade rose by Rs 3 to Rs 190, BP-1 A grade rose by Rs 10 to Rs 230, Bangladesh Garden Pack original rose by Rs 5 to Rs 112, Gulab was higher by Rs 3 to Rs 108, Khushbu rose by Rs 3 to Rs 109, China's 25101 up by Rs 15 to Rs 125, black China quoted down at Rs 50, and Rwandan PF-1 (CTC) rose by Rs 9 to Rs 185.

Milk powder was quiet with exception of two variations in Poland which dropped Rs 50 to Rs 2,225 and sweetened polac down by Rs 25 to Rs 1,300.

Plastic mouldings: Compound HDP 952 rose by 25 paisa to Rs 28, Korea 3080 up by same amount to Rs 28. Mobil-up by 50 paisa to Rs 28.25, TR 144 gained 15 paisa to Rs 27.75, Asrene up by Rs 1.25 to Rs 27.75, and 6888 down by 25 paisa to Rs 27.50, HDPE injection Ladene 20056 rose by Rs 1.25 to Rs 29, Escorene up by same amount to Rs 29 and Thai lost 25 paisa to Rs 28.50. HDPE 6007 lost Re 1 to Rs 27.50, 6400 dropped Rs 1.25 to Rs 27.50, Mobil lost Rs 1.50 to Rs 27.50, 5202 lost Rs 1.25 to Rs 27.75. LDPE cosmosthene 410 quoted at Rs 28, Thai at Rs 28, Korea up by 25 paisa to Rs 28 and Lotrene 0374 down by Re 1 to Rs 28. LLDPE W118 Ladene shed 25 paisa to Rs 27, Escorene was down by 50 paisa to Rs 27, Daelim shed Rs 1.25 to Rs 27. Polypropylene film Thai was up by Rs 1.38 to Rs 24, Indonesian up by same amount to Rs 24 and Kuwait up by Rs 1.38 to Rs 29. Polypropylene tape grade Delim lost 63 paisa to Rs 22.62, Yuplene lost same amount to Rs 22.62, Thai lost 63 paisa to Rs 22.62 and Saudia was quoted at Rs 23.28. Polypropylene injection grade Saudia lost 50 paisa, but recouped later to close at Rs 23.25, Yuplene shed same amount and closing was seen at Rs 23.25. Thai yielded 50 paisas but gained later to close at Rs 23.25 and Hanwa lost and gained same amount to close at Rs 23.50.

Polystyrene high impact Saudia dropped 25 paisa to Rs 23.25 and Yuplene shed 25 paisa to Rs 23.25. Polystyrene GP Saudia rose by Rs 100 to Rs 1,800, Pakistan also gained same amount to Rs 1640 and Polyrex rose by Rs 50 to Rs 1,800. ABS polylac was quoted at Rs 2,125. PVC Golden Bell rose by 50 paisa to Rs 26. Formalon was up by 50 paisa to Rs 25.50, Iran was up by same amount to Rs 25.50 and Hungary Ongrovil gained 50 paisa to Rs 25.50.

Kirana items: Black pepper from Vietnam rose by Rs 600 to Rs 15,000, black pepper from Singapore was up by Rs 300 to Rs 14,600, mace lost Rs 1,000 to Rs 31,000, small cardamom lost and gained Rs 4,000 to Rs 32,000, small cardamom from lost Rs 6,000 to Rs 30,000. Small cardamom from Tanzania gained Rs 4,000 to Rs 22,000, big cardamom rose by Rs 1,400 to Rs 18,000, cloves rose by Rs 1,100 to Rs 12,500, Isbaghol bhosi rose to be quoted at Rs 1,020, darchini rose by Rs 25 to Rs 4,000, cuminseed rose by Rs 100 to Rs 3,100 and tamarind rose by Rs 160 to Rs 1,360, almond girdi rose by Rs 100 to Rs 1,850, almond Irani dropped Rs 200 to Rs 7,600, raisin up by Rs 800 to Rs 400, Chilghoza roasted dropped Rs 100 to Rs 7,400 and dry dates was up by Rs 100 to Rs 1,700.

Chemicals: Caustic soda flakes Saudi rose by 25 paisa to Rs 25.75, caustic soda quoted at Rs 21, DOP rose by 30 paisa at Rs 63, formic acid China rose by 50 paisa to Rs 49, formic acid Pakistan was up by 50 paisa to Rs 47.50, formic acid, Germany was quoted at Rs 50.60. Oxalic acid China lost 20 paisa to Rs 31, Citric acid China rose by Rs 1.40 to Rs 63, Sulphuric acid China rose earlier but later lost to be quoted at Rs 60. PVA Japan rose sharply to close at Rs 129. Hydrosulphite China 88 percent was quoted at Rs 58.30, acetic acid Taiwan was down by 50 paisa to Rs 41.50.

Dyes: Bases China red B down by Rs 20 to Rs 200, China Tenjin Nigrosine lost Rs 5 to Rs 70, Formaton blue FFG was down by Rs 3 to Rs 114, Sandye pink F5B shed Rs 5 to Rs 200, and blue FFG was down by Rs 2 to Rs 116, basic colours Rohdemine B gained Rs 5 to Rs 215, Sulphur dyes China sulphur 501 lost 50 paisa to Rs 34 and Brown GDR was down by Rs 4 to Rs 56. Reactive dyes India red H8B dropped Rs 5 to Rs 150 and black B was up by Rs 5 to Rs 105. Disperse dyes India Golden GG 200 percent dropped Rs 13 to Rs 165 and dispersed dyes China red FB dropped Rs 10 to Rs 210.
