PPP flays downsizing policy

Lahore: The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has urged the government to reinstate the retrenched employees of the Pakistan Steel Mills, and condemned the downsizing in the CBR, PIA, Railways, Telecommunication Company, and some financial institutions.

These views were expressed by Jahangir Badar, central general secretary of the PPP, during a meeting with Shamshad Qureshi, general secretary, peoples bureau Karachi division; Qamaruz Zaman Khan, chairman, Pakistan Trade Unions; Sohail Malik, organiser Peoples Youth Organisation and Peoples Students Federation, who called on him here on Saturday. He said that the Peoples Party has always been struggling for the workers' interest and created greater job opportunities during its regime.

During the meeting the need for reorganisation of the peoples bureau in the Punjab province was stressed, while it was also decided to establish an organising committee so that grievances of the workers could be redressed. The formal announcement of the committee would be made soon.
