The overnight value of the dollar remained unchanged against the rupee in the open currency markets of Islamabad and Rawalpindi on Friday.
The Islamabad market started the day with active buying and selling in ever-favourite greenback, pound and the UAE dirham. The dollar was bought and sold at Rs 54.10 and Rs 54.15 respectively.
Dealers said that the market resumed trading on a positive note an remained in plus territory throughout the day.
They said that volume of trade considerably expanded on Friday because of holidays on Saturday and Sunday.
Demand of pound sterling considerably increased as it opened at Rs 87 and sellers offered 40 paisa more at Rs 87.40. British currency significantly fluctuated in both morning as well as evening sessions because of its shortage in the money markets.
The UAE dirham was bought at Rs 14.78 and sold at Rs 14.82, Saudi riyal was bought and sold at Rs 14.45 and Rs 14.48 respectively.
Japanese currency started the day at Re 0.501 and was sold at Re 0. 502.
German mark opened at Rs 27.40 and was sold at Rs 27.60.
The market opened on a plus note following firm trend in dollar and other currencies.
Dollar and pound were bought and sold at the same rate of Islamabad.
