PPL chief Munsif Raza recovered
RECORDER REPORT
KARACHI: Syed Munsif Raza, Managing Director of Pakistan Petroleum Limited, who was abducted 12 days ago, was recovered safe and sound on Thursday morning.
The Inspector General of Police, Sindh Aftab Nabi told journalists that Raza was recovered from Sindh-Balochistan border town of Imam Bux Barfat at 5 am on Thursday in the combined raid of Sindh Police, Army, Rangers and Citizens-Police Liaison Committee (CPLC).
"Raza is in good health," he added".
"The raiding party arrested one Izzat Barfat, while three other co-accused Shahid Ali Barfat, Abdul Razzaq and Dil Murad managed to flee," Aftab Nabi said.
Police had also arrested two other persons from Nazimabad in connection with Munsif's abduction. The arrested persons were identified as Nazar Mohammad Brohi and Ajab Khan Rind.
"The arrested persons had demanded Rs. 20 million as ransom," the IG said.
Raza was kidnapped on January 22, 2000, from Karachi's Mohammad Ali Society, but the FIR was registered after three days.
Chief Executive General Pervez Musharraf on his last visit to Karachi had asked the authorities concerned to solve the matter of Munsif Raza's abduction and keep him posted daily with the progress in the investigation.
Munsif Raza was not available for comment. He has been the chief executive of PPL since 1997.
