Rs 9.653m rise in
Karachi Custom
House receipts
during July-Jan

KARACHI: Total collection of customs duty and other taxes by Custom House, Karachi was up by over 17 percent during the first seven months (July to January) of the current fiscal compared with the same period last year.
Total revenue collection during first seven months of 1999-2000 was over Rs 63,903 million compared with Rs 54,250 million collected during the same period of last year.
Of the total revenue, Rs 28,134.65 million were collected on account of Customs duty; Rs 27992 million as sales tax; Rs 7174.24 million as income tax and Rs 601 million on account of central excise duty.
Meanwhile revenue collections for the first month of 2000 went up by over 23 percent compared with January 1999. The total collection of taxes from Custom House, Karachi during January 2000, was Rs 8,653.55 million as against Rs 7,011.82 million in January 1999 showing an increase of 23.41 percent.
According to the details of collections in January, 2000, Rs 3020.01 million were fetched as Customs duty; Rs. 4638.97 million as sales tax; Rs 892.22 million as income tax and Rs 102.35 million as central excise duty.
Of the total Custom House collections during January 2000, Rs 5,315.58 million, about two-third of the total, came from the Collectorate of Customs (Appraisement). This was over 13 percent more than the collections made by the collectorate in January last year.
