Ombudsman's directive to NED varsity
KARACHI: The provincial Ombudsman, Justice Haziqul Khairi (Retd), has directed the NED University to declare the withheld result of a student Imranullah s/o Amanullah and award him marks on his missing paper on the basis of average marks secured by him in subsequent examinations of second and third years.
The Ombudsman ordered that this declaration as well as declaration of the result of final examination must be made within two weeks with intimation to him.
Issuing the order on the complaint filed by Imranullah, Justice Khairi directed the Vice-Chancellor, Registrar and the Controller of Examination to show cause within 2 weeks as to why compensation of Rs 30,000 should not be awarded against them for payment to complainant under section 22, Establishment of the office of Ombudsman Act, 1991.
In his remarks, the Ombudsman observed that it was a clear cut case of mal-administration on the part of NED University which owes its duty to students and public at large.
He noted that being a matter of grave concern, he would not allow the university authorities to play with the life and career of student for something for which they alone are responsible.
He said that an offer for supplementary examination in the year 2000 for annual examination held in 1994 besides being ridiculous will result into gross injustice and inflict upon him mental torture and agony at the hands of hostile and possibly vindictive functionaries of the university. He described the offer as untenable. APP
