NWFP judges discuss backlog

PESHAWAR: A meeting of the district and sessions judges in NWFP on Sunday took stock of the pending cases of both criminal and civil nature.

The meeting, held here at Peshawar High Court (PHC), was presided over by Chief Justice Mian Mohammed Ajmal, says a press release.

Senior Judge Sardar Mohammed Raza, Member Inspection Team and Additional Registrar of the high court also attended the meeting.

The meeting directed the district and sessions judges to be vigilant and effective by ensuring early completion of investigations and timely submission of challans.

All district and sessions judges in the province will be responsible for the integrity and expeditious disposal of the work of subordinate courts within their jurisdiction.

They were further directed that cases of widows, orphans, suits for administration of the State and all other small disputes be disposed of within one-month.

Judges of the subordinate judiciary who are alleged to be ineffective and not punctual were asked to improve their performance failing which strict disciplinary action would be taken against them.

The chief justice also urged all the district and sessions judges to keep a check on the activities of subordinate staff and appropriate disciplinary action be initiated against those found indulged in such practices. APP
