Govt urged not to demolish small extensions to quarters

RECORDER REPORT

HYDERABAD: The residents of Ayub and Bareli colonies, Unit No 11, Latifabad, have appealed to the authorities not to demolish the extensions of their small quarters as they are prepared to make payment for the areas occupied by them.

Speaking at a news conference at the Hyderabad Press Club on Sunday, they said that they were extremely poor people and, during the Ayub regime, they were given small quarters at the rate of Rs 1470 per quarter/plot and allowed to pay instalments at the rate of Rs 10 per month only.

They pleaded that during the last 40 years their families had multiplied and as no living arrangements were made by the government, the vacant space behind the quarters was also occupied.

They said even today three to four families are living in one quarter which are now being demolished on the pretext of anti-encroachment drive.

They said that if the demolition of their quarters was not stopped forthwith, their families would be forced to live under the open sky.

They appealed to the authorities to review the decision and save them from becoming shelterless, and offered to make payment for the space which has been occupied by them.

They lamented that no political leader or party had come forward in their support. Those who spoke at the news conference included Rao Rifaqat Ali, Qazi Zafarullah, Mohammad Shakeel, Sarfraz, Maqsood Ali Rajput and others.
