KU to provide
Internet service
by next month
KARACHI: Karachi University would be an internet service provider by the next month. This was declared by Vice-Chancellor of Karachi University, Prof Dr Zafar H Zaidi, while speaking at the Convocation 2000 of the institution held at its campus on Saturday.
He said that in this modern era, the Internet has become very essential. Prof Zaidi said that in three phases all the teaching departments would also be inter-linked with the Internet and that this facility would also be made available to the students.
He stated that in the month of March also the university would launch its Website. The Washington Alumni has extended partial financial assistance towards this.
The Vice-Chancellor also pointed towards computerisation work going on at the university and acknowledged the cooperation of Chairman of Pakistan Steel, Col Mohammad Afzal (Retd).
He pointed out that the university's Syndicate has approved the setting up Umar Basha Institute for Information Technology and Feroz Ahmed Institute of Mass Communication.
A piece of land has also been allocated for Abdul Qadeer Khan Institute of Biotechnology and Panjawani Institute of Molecular Medicine and Drug Development.
The building of Department of Genetics is being set up with the financial assistance from Syedna Burhanuddin.
A new department is being added at the Faculty of Islamic Learning.
Prof Zaidi said that a computer centre with facility of 400 students and a cafeteria building would be constructed with a cost of Rs 30 million by the Karachi University Alumni Trust.
He stated that a need is being felt for the convocation hall at Karachi University. APP
