IT dept opens

at Raana Liaquat College

KARACHI: The Amna Feroz Department of Information Technology at the Raana Liaquat Ali Khan (RLAK) Government College of Home Economics was inaugurated at a ceremony on Saturday.

Sindh Education Secretary Mohammad Sharif was the chief guest on the occasion.

Highlighting the importance of computers and information technology, he said the present century was that of information.

He praised the contribution of the private sector towards the setting up of the IT Department at RLAK College and said that the credit for this also goes to the Principal, Zubaida Meraj.

The secretary also commended the performance of the students of the institution and the projects displayed by them.

He said the college is one of the major institutions in the country.

RLAK College Principal, Zubaida Meraj said that the college was the first in the government sector that had come up with such a department.

She also spoke about the significance of the Home Economics education.

Zubaida stated that in the present day era computers had become essential.

She pointed out towards the shortage of teaching and non-teaching staff at the college and urged that more such staff be provided.

She said that the college had a well-equipped laboratory. There are 20 computers.

She said the facility had been created with a private funding and had been named after the mother of the donor-Amna Feroz.

She said computers and statistics have been made compulsory subjects for the M.Sc. students.

The number of M.Sc, students at the college is 200 and the total enrolment at the institution from first year to masters level classes is 2,500.

The donor, Abdullah Feroz, said that the principal had convinced him for the setting up of the department at the institution.

He hoped that this would be beneficial towards the provision of modern knowledge.

College Education Karachi Director, Iftikhar Zaidi and Deputy Director Fatima Bukhari, were also present on the occasion.ÑAPP
