Hissan vows to contest LB polls

LAHORE: Khawja Hissan, the former Mayor of Lahore has declared that his group would contest the future local bodies elections under the banner of 'Mayor Group'.

He claimed to have the support of 180 members out of 220 local council members and said that his group would win the local council elections.

Hissan said that he was still a staunch supporter of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif and was likely to meet Begum Kulsoom Nawaz for future guidelines soon.

He, however, said that the group would resist any attempt by party cadres to put them in confrontation with the armed forces.

He said with Indians showing belligerent attitude on the borders, the confrontation between PML(N) workers and army was not called for.

He said the present rulers had asked him to continue as Mayor provided he supported them. I didn't accept the offer and was relieved of the post of mayorship, he added.
